1930's Motorized Pulley Lift System to Raise/Lower the c. 1500 "Last Judgment" Flemish Tapestry- Worcester Art Museum

These cables, motor and pulleys (only one is shown here, but there are two) were part of the system designed to raise and lower the circa 1500 "Last Judgment" Flemish tapestry in the Renaissance Court of the Worcester Art Museum. For certain events and performances, the grand tapestry was lowered to cover the three arched openings to the Salisbury Lobby, and serve as a stage backdrop. The mechanism was well measured and balanced, and the system was easy to operate. There were only three controls: Raise, Lower and Stop.
